In Windows 2000 Pro how can I enable the display of the previous user when logging in to the network?

You'll need to go to the local security policy (under the Administrative tools) the look under Local Policies > Security Options to find the "Don't display last user name in logon screen" key. Change the setting to Disabled.

If your PC is part of an AD domain, then this setting may get overwritten by Group Policies in the domain as these take precidence over the local policy.
