username for file

I have a hyperlink to a file on a fileserver. In the path I need to add the username, How do I do this? I this is an elementary question but thanks in advance for your response.

If you mean as a hyperlink

http://......

you could try this:

http://<username>:<password>@<servername>/<path>/<filename>

You could leave <password> blank in which case it should prompt for the password with the username.

Thank you, Yes that is what I meant. I don't have a password because the file share server uses nt authentication. I tried putting the username in like you told me but I still haven't got it to work yet.

Do you mean that you wish to browse to the current users directory? If so you probably want something along these lines:

\\fileserver\%username%

"%username%" will automatically be replaced with the login name of the current user.
