Does anyone know a relatively simple way to find out what a users extension number is if they logoff their phone and for get their exten. I can go to Gedi and list stations and hope I have their name listed and then reference their extension that way or we can back track it using a port IP address etc. etc.

You might use the directory on your phone, search by name.

If you are asking how to find the phone's extention number then you could possible make one of the softphone buttons a btn-view button. Then the user could enter the soft buttons select button view and hit the line ket and it will show you the extension.

These are good ideas but my situation is a little different. In many cases the phone may not be listed by a users name. Some examples are:

One of many phones used by security in the building, which are only listed as *security.
We have lobby phones that are listed only as *lobby, etc.

Granted most of our phones are listed with a user name but we have several thousand in the building and when Avaya set up the system they did not specify detailed information for each set and location so we could really pin it down with certainty.

When the user loggs off the phone the only thing that shows on the screen is:

Ext.=
#=OK New=

If we don't know what the extension was we are up the river or commonly referred to as screwed. So if someone loggs off an IP phone and no one remembers what the number was...

Rick4610,

Have you tried to just hit '#'? I seem to remember that the switch would remember the last extension logged in on that MAC/IP address and would populate it... It's been a awhile since I was involved with IP phones... Trying to get justification to implement IP here... [thumbsup2]

I think SloTCMs30 has it right.

Speak softly and carry a big switch

I almost forgot about this thread and found it by accident. Here is the latest update.

Hitting the # will not work because the phone was logged off not unplugged. If the phone is logged off, it basically becomes unregistered and the exten # must be reentered manually.

We were able to locate the original exten # but had to really jump through some hoops and also had some weird luck. Some time back I had to list registered IP stations. Luckily someone kept a hard copy of this. We took the MAC address off the bottom of the set (4610IP) and then went back to our network router and cross referenced the MAC address with the IP address and cross referenced that with the phone IP address and then cross referenced that with the ext # of the phone. If not for the hardcopy of the li registered IP stations list, we would have not been able to cross reference the IP address with the exten # because if the phone is logged off, it will not show up under list registered IP stations. An amazing set of circumstances to say the least.

The end result is, I don't know of an easy way to find the ext.# of a 4610IP phone if it has been logged off, unless someone remembers what the number was.

If anyone has anything to add to this it certainly would make interesting reading.

Thanks,
Rick

You can change the:

Record IP Registrations in History Log?

in the system-parameters features screen, page 2 on my system, to "Y" and then these entries will be recorded in your "list history" buffer. If they call you right away, you'll be able to pull it right up.

Thanks, that's a great idea. I wish they would have set that option to "y" when they initially installed the system because we have a couple of thousand phones in this building. Good news for the future though.

Thanks,
Rick

Another thing you can do is restrict "logoff" by changing your 46xxsettings.txt file. Under the OPSTAT section, change it to SET OPSTAT 110 and remove the ##. After doing so, reset all of the IP Stations, at your leisure, and allow them to download the new settings file. :)
