I am using Outlook 2007 and did a test to see if I can export duplicate emails into a new pst file. I created a pst file (called test1) and placed several emails in the Inbox. I copies the same e-mails again into the same Inbox (in essence I ended up with duplicate emails in test1.pst inbox).

I then created a second pst and called that one test2. Using the export, I exported test1.pst inbox to test2.pst inbox, using the 'do not export duplicates' filter.

All the e-mails in test1.pst were copied to test2.pst. Is this a bug or is this my error?

thanks

58sniper, I retried the copy and past and the creation date remained the same in the two records. I am not sure the differences.

You're still creating another message. If you were trying to exmerge data into the mailbox, duplicates wouldn't appear (assuming you chose the appropriate option).

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

In outlook, right click the message then click options. There should be a message ID in the text as you scroll down like ... Message-ID: <BBF37FFB28A116469ED25BA96E06C97E02ACFBAD@SACMVEXC2-

If the message IDs are different, then they're unique messages. Copying creates a unique message with a new message-id.
