Hi all

Quick query.

Does anyone know where the defaults for user creation are stored for AD (in Windows 2003 server).

When I create a user in AD (using the wizard) when I enter the first name and Last Name the full name is prepopulated and has the format;
Lastname, Firstname (Note the annoying comma)
I have to overwrite this with;
Firstname Lastname
(As DSMOD commands are the pain with the comma)

Is there any way to have the wizard put the Full Name in a format I specify (by default) - basically, Firstname Lastname?

I dont create many accounts, however some of the rest of the team do - and they dont script!

Many thanks,

NP

Someone in your organization has made this change before. The behavior you describe is not a default setting in AD. I found a KB article for this type of change about a year ago... Took me a while to re-find it..

See [URL unfurl="true"]http://support.microsoft.com/kb/250455/[/url]

This procedure is not for the faint of heart. It requires modifications of AD in a raw format. [red]Be extremely careful when using this procedure.[/red]

When you get to step 12 of this procedure, you should find the setting that is listed in the KB article. Instead of typing anything, [red]click the clear button[/red] to set the attribute to "<not set>", do not type "<not set>". This will set your AD back to the default setting.

If you find that this attribute has not been changed, then do nothing. The change has been made somewhere else in your system and I have no idea where it may be.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply - I'll have a look into it!
