User complains erratic speeds from ISP - How to test this?

1. Will try remote login to user's PC

2. Use Neotrace or other program - any recommendations?

3. Also dslreports.com - speed tests

4. Any other ideas to monitor for a period of time - a week for example? I think his main problem - going to a particular online store often is response time (latency? maybe). Client says Cox Cable seems faster than a 512 Kbs T-1 in loading pages.

Thanks, Dave

markdmac & icewebber - thank you guys. Best regards, now looking for a free version of Neotrace w/o 30 day limit.

Dave

I found a web site by the ISP that shows hourly statistics for upload and download bandwidth consumption for a 24 hour period, day by day, month to month.

I noticed weekends data traffic up and down are minimal little "bumps" of a few kbs, but M-F the uploading bandwidth gets heavily consumed - over 50% of 512 Kbs in several ( 2 or 3 ) bands of an hour or more typically, most days.

The ISP tells me this is due to virus activity typically. They advised me to try AnalogX's PacketMon packet sniffer to isolate which PC on our network is acting up.

Any feedback on PacketMon? What is the easiest way to tell which PC is sending too much data?

Thanks Dave
