We have a Norstar KSU/PRI MICS 5. Handsets are M7310.

Problem: User inadvertently changed functions which plugging in a new handset cord (the coiled one) to the bottom of his phone. He held the phone upside down and was hitting keys randomly. After he got the new handset cord plugged in, his phone behaves differently. We desire to restore the old behavior.

Old behavior:

Pickup handset and hear a dial tone.
Hang-up handset, and this action releases the call.

New behavior: Nothing happens when picking up the handset. Must press one of two intercom keys. When hanging up the handset, must press the Rls key.

I’ve tried “rebooting” the phone by unplugging from wall, waiting a minute, plugging it back in. Didn’t help.

Is there some feature that could be inadvertently enabled? Is there an easy way to turn off? I have admin access, and looked at the button programming for his handset, but couldn’t determine a problem.

TIA

curlycord, thanks, but that doesn't seem to be it. You see, once you select an intercom line, you can use the handset.

Solved. User plugged handset into headset jack. I moved it to the correct jack and now it works! Always makes sense in retrospect.
