I have a distribution group and a user that would like to send messages on behalf of that group. This works perfectly fine with my Domain Admin/Enterprise Admin account, but not so with the user's account despite the fact that he was granted the 'Send As' permission.
I've gone so far as to grant the user 'Full Control' over the distribution group. Refreshed AD (we only have two internal DC's and one domain) and logged the user off and on. No success.
I've looked through usenet for a solution to this one and I keep seeing the same answer posted about enabling 'Send As'. It's not working for me. I don't seen any deny permissions applied to this group and I've picked through all of the permissions applied at the dist group level with a fine-toothed comb -- empty handed...
Any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated:)

Try converting the DG to a security group. Does it work then? Why?

Doh!!! It did work. I understand why now. Thanks for your assistance.

A) A distribution group is not a security principal, a security group is.

I have the same problem. I tried converting it from a Distribution Group to a Security Group in Exchange 2003. Users are still getting the Undeliverable error message bounceback.

Where do I set the 'Send As' property?

Ensure that advanced features are enabled under ADUC. Go to the properties of the account, under the security tab. The permission is there.

I went to the user's Security tab. In that window, I have set the security group's Send As permission to Allow. Still getting Undeliverable messages.

What's wrong with this?

Have you given enough time to replicate perms? Is he/she on a different mail server?

I only allowed 5 minutes to pass before trying to send a test email. The user is on the same mail server as the distribution/security group. (I'm running SBS 2003)

It has now been more than 12 hours since I made the permission change and the user is still getting Undeliverable messages.

I'm not sure what you're running into here. I just double-checked the config on the security group that I created for this purpose and found that everything is as listed above. There is a single user who needs to have the ability to send as this group and they've been added to the security ACL list with the allow "send as" permission. Maybe try going from scratch and recreating the group? The user is also a member of the security group (I'm sure that you've got that covered, but figured that I'd list it anyway).
