User can not open Mapped Drives

I have situation where some users after some time can not access thier map drives anymore.

They get the error:

"Microsoft Windows Network - The local device name is already in use.

The connection has not been restored."


All PC's are XP connecting to a W2k3 R2 server.

Pc's are mapped using NET USE command.

Dumb question, but have you tried rebooting the server?

I have and it fixes the problem, but I want to get to the root of the problem as to why this is happening.

Any suggestions.

The root problem is Windows Server!

I'd put money on second post. Mapped drives at logon conflicting with manual mapped drives.

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.
