I am pretty sure I have successfuly done this, but if I take a used IP 500 v2 release 9.0 and replace its SD card and attach it to a new r11 server edition with sufficient server edition licenses, will I have any issues?

Im not trying to preserve any licensing on the 500v2, it will get all of its licensing from the server edition that was already oredered.

If you keep it on 9.0 you probably will =)
But otherwise, what would be the issue comparing to taking a new one?

As SE doesnt require an essential edition licence and is in fact licenced by the SE licences on the SE, by adding the 9.0 system to the R11 SE system you would then be licenced by the SE licence from the SE. You will just need to upgrade it to R11.

Pep77 is right. The chassis will get a R11 SE license assigned thus it can be upgraded to R11.
I would make it factory default before doing the upgrade.

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Yep. (well not to 11) but I have taken 9.0 and 9.1 systems and added them to an R10/10.1 SE setup without issues. If you think about it it is no different than upgrading an SE solution with existing IP500 expansion from 9.1 to 10 - you dont add any licences to the expansion only the SE.
