Good morning, Merlin techs.

Need help using an MFM card to install an answering machine on an extension. The only info I was able to find was through this forum.

The phone system is running Merlin Magix version 4 release 7.0.

What I've done so far:

1) Turned off coverage to their existing VM on the extension (x125) that needs the answering machine.

2) Installed the MFM card in x125's phone.

3) This is probably where the problem is - I created an adjunct extension for x125 - x325. I found this number from the Dial Plan for Stations and Adjuncts section in the system configuration. Somewhere I read that adjunct extensions started in the 300 series, so I assumed (probably incorrectly) that that was the extension number I needed to use.

4) I added a Primary coverage button on x325 to cover x125 after 4 rings (so the user could answer his phone first before the answering machine would pick up).

5) The answering machine is programmed to pick up after 2 rings (that's the lowest value it will take).

When someone calls x125, it just rings and the answering machine never picks up. We've also changed the answering machine to pick up after 4 rings, but that doesn't work either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot.

Does the answering machine pickup when you dial 325? If you plug in a single line telephone into the MFM, do you get dial tone? If you call another extension from that single line telephone, does the ringing phone show you calling from 325?

you can go to maintenance, port, station. Enter the phone extension and enter. Press status and then press next. That will be the adjunct extension for that extension.

Good morning.

Looks like other arrangements have been made (so I won't be needing the answering machine after all) and I won't be able to do any further testing. I wish I could, as I would like to know how this works.

However, I did verify that the adjunct extension for x125 was x325, but when you try and reach it internally, the caller receives a busy signal and when you try to reach it remotely (via selecting an extension from an auto-attendant) the message "you have reached an invalid extension" plays.

If you didn't make a "Transfer Only" mailbox for 325, transfer restrictions will prevent you from dialing it from the auto attendant.

Since you got a busy signal internally, something was still amiss.
