Client: SUSE Linux
NW Client: 7.4.1 Build 335
NW Server: HP-UX
NW Server: NW 7.4 SP2 Build.431

Keep getting "Cannot determine status of backup process. Use mminfo to determine job status." on 50+GB filesystem on Linux client. It backs up about 10GB and then fails with above error. This is happening for almost 2 weeks now. NW client has been restarted, /tmp directory on the client has been cleaned up. Please provide any suggestions you may have.

Thanks

Hello,

it is a 'miss-use' of temporary files located under /nsr/tmp/sg.... on the server, where NW saves information on the process during backup (files processed, sizes, messages...).

You may have in your daemon.log the entire name of the file involved. But for some reasons, this file is not read by NW after the end of the backup (or is not written with correct information, often left empty), so it cannot see the normal termination of the job.

The only way to be sure the backup is complete is to perform a mminfo with the savesets names in order to see the ssflags.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply denisfr.
/nsr/tmp/sg/group/sso.server.000004 file is empty (size 0). I did run mminfo and that is how I found out that it fails at around 10Gb for past couple of weeks. It does not give me any more info as to at what point (any particular file/directory) the backup fails etc..

Try to look at the messages file or even the "savegroup_completion.log" (as set in the savegroup completion notification in the NMC GUI)...
