What I'm trying to do:
After cleaning up submitted artwork using Illustrator CS2's Live Trace feature, I would like to use the resulting PDF (tried saving with/without preview) in a Microsoft Word Document.

Problem I'm running into:
After using insert -> picture -> from file
I can only see the a border -- no graphic.

What I've tried:
* Saving out to EPS both with and without preview
* There aren't any fonts in the image I'm editing, so I'm not embedding fonts.
* In Word (tools -> options -> view), I've verified that "Picture placeholders" is unchecked
* The EPS file resides in the same folder, on the same system as the Word doc.

Why am I focused on using eps?
Ideally I would like the picture to remain crisp and the CMYK values to be true to their original PMS values.

Any help would be appreciated.
Kind regards,
- Thomas

Hmmmm, in Word? Maybe.

The best result I have had was saving to EPS as 8 bit Binary. What exactly are you settings for the EPS save? I am bringing the EPS into Word with no problems.

I'm using the following settings when saving out to EPS:

Version: Illustrator CS2 EPS

Preview
Format: TIFF (8-bit Color)
Transparen

Transparency: (all options are disabled)

Fonts:
Not embedding any fonts

Options:
Include Document Thumbnails
Include CMYK PostScript in RGB Files
Do Not use Compatible Gradient and Gradient Mesh Printing

Adobe Postscript: Language level 2

What application are you using to create (or save) your EPS files (have you seen better results with the larger Photoshop generated EPS files)?

- Thomas

That was it, Word for some reason won't accept Adobe Illustrator EPS files (at least not with the settings I've tried out). However, when using the following settings to save out as a Photoshop EPS, everything shows up fine in the Word doc:

Preview: TIFF (8 bits/pixel)
Encoding: Binary
No other options were checked

Thanks for your help
- Thomas
