I am trying to install a digital camera using a USB port. This is the first thing on my PC to use USB. Drivers for the camera are all installed correctly, and after reading a few posts here I went to the BIOS and turned on "USB functionality". Below that is another option: "Legacy support for USB keyboard/mouse. I tunred this to AUTO but the PC crashes before it gets into windows, the PC only doesn't crash when Legacy support is set to disabled.

Ahhhhhh. So went into Device Manager, and there is an exclamation mark next to "USB Root Hub" and it states "Due to a hub transfer error a hub has been disabled" I've checked all cabling, and everything is connected.

I'm running Win 98 (SE [I think]). Can't think what else to do!!!

Thanks for any help!!!

I would try and disconnect everything from the usb connection in the computer. Then remove the usb root hub from device manager and restart the machine. Windows should detect the usb root hub after a reboot. If not, direct windows to the file "usbhub.sys". Check device manager and make sure usb doesn't have a yellow exclamation mark by it, then reconnect everything.
Hope this helps!

Thanks mate, Tried it and it didn't work :-(

When you say "direct windows to the file" how exactly do i do that.

Any help is good help!!

Same error? Can you confirm that you're running 98se? Try updating the driver for the usb root hub. Goto the properties menu of the usb root hub, then driver tab. Make sure you specify the location of the driver(direct windows.): c:\windows\system32\drivers
Hope this clears things up!

Thanks jeremy, I went back to Device manager, but this time removed the whole USB device bit, not just the root hub. Reinstalled it, and it worked! Wooohooo

Silly me, should have done that in the first place!

Thanks for your help!
