I brought a new Lexmark printer and hooked it with my w2k compaq presario laptop (brought 3 yrs ago) machine using a USB cable which says it is compatible with USB 1,1.1,2.0 versions.
My machine is not able to detect the lexmark printer.
The new hardware wizard yields no new devices found.

Also in device manager the "generic USB hub" device gives an error saying drivers not installed.

The same printer works fine when connected to a XP home desktop. I guess the culprit is in USB etc..any ideas?

Thanks bcastner. I will upgrade it today and post back.

I have upgraded to service pack 4 and still the same problem. Any more ideas.

Your root hub in Device Manager still says no driver installed?

Remove through device manager all USB root devices. Reboot and let Win2k rediscover them.

ok u will probably need usb drivers from your motherboard vendoe dwnlaod and install these.

bcastner - i did the same and still not detecting.

1stITMAN - my BIOS is phoenix bios version 4.0. Could you point me to the correct download. Should I update my BIOS ? If so how do I do ?

it is a compaq machine, go to their site and locate all drivers for your model, the USB hub will be in that list.

If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, expect random guesses or no replies at all. Please specify details.
