Hello,

A strange problem. My desktop PC is showing all the USB ports on my machine as removable drives in "My computer" and also assigning a letter to each. Although nothing is attached to the USB ports. Ideally, whenever a device is attached to USB, only then, it should show as a drive/storage, with a letter......
The ports are working fine and anything attached to any por works fine....the remaining drives for the un-used ports just sit there with their drive letters.

Can anyone provide a solution. My PC is HP pavilion 1030n. P4 3Ghz 512Ram

Thanks

Try upgrading the chipset drivers for you PC (download from HP's website), they should include drivers for the USB Controller also, so it may fix your problem.

Ploper,

I have tried almost every trick in the book. Talked to the HP customer tech support. They are useless bunch of people. I my experience, whenever I contacted them for some problem, they were unable to solve.
Drivers are updated to the lattest.

Regards,

Question: Do you have a flash memory card reader attached to or integrated into the PC?

Wahnula,

Yes, I have reader ports in front panel of my machine. But, its the USB ports, that are showing up. Resaon, when I attach a device to any of the USB port, one of the drives showing (in my computer) becomes active and accessible (the attached device).

Regards,

C

I have a 7-in-1 memory card reader installed on my PC and it shows the same thing. Every slot on the reader is shown as a separate drive and they are not accessable until I stick in a memory card.

It's no big deal, unless your running out of drive letters and that is very doubtful.
