I recently bought a pc with a k7s5a mb in it. Company gone bust and i now have a problem. I bought a cannon scanner that runs from the usb port, i can not get it to be acknowleged by the machine. I tried my lap top and i got install wizard streight away but not on my home pc. i am running xp. If i plug a digi cam in it does not respond until i turn the power on to the camera. Do you thing the usb ports are not providing any power to the scanner?. If so what can i do
Many thanks

pull off the case, and make sure your jumpers are set correctly for the + and - for the usb .. Find more information before doing this. It should be in your mainboard manual.

Make sure the USB ports are enabled in the BIOS.

Does anybody know where these jumpers may be?

question, do you have jumpers in the front and back?

I'm thinking the jumpers are only for additional case USB ports. in the front, and not for the ones in the back. Can someone clear that up for me?

you can download the manual there

sorry i'm not more help.

Yes, you'd enter the BIOS at startup, usually by pressing the <Del> key. What operating system are you running? W95, W98 etc.

chesireman,

As a variant to GOAZ's advice, I would try Disabling legacy USB support in the BIOS.

Install SP1, and (or if SP1 already installed): uninstall the USB hubs under Device Manager. Reboot and let XP re-dedect them and install the newest drivers from SP1. It will do so automaticly.

Before I forget, there are some chipset level problems in some cases. The following link should be looked at to see if any of the available chipset level patches apply in your case:

Best.
