I have windows 2000 pro, 633Mhz,M754LMR motherboard, with over 300MB ram......
USB ports are not showing in device manager and web cam, etc will not install....
get a "Device could not start" error in the property sheet.

What am I missing?
The onboard "enable USB" is on.
Help me, If been struggling with this all day.

gasp

Check to make sure that the Onchip USB 0 and Onchip USB 1 are ENABLED in your BIOS. The last couple MOBs I have installed have had this DISABLED and until I enabled them, I had no USB ports, either. They are under the heading of something like "Advanced Chipset Features", though BIOS's do differ.

"Onchip USB 0 and Onchip USB 1"

I have looked through each section of the BIOS and all I see are
Onboard USB Function and Onboard USB Function for DOS....
These are both enabled.

Found some documentation that says "Check to see that the USB is installed proprely. Look to see if you have USB Controllers in your device list"

Well....What if its not installed properly? Its not there in the list and the "documentation" does not explain how to install it properly......
Im.......stretching the ability to remain my pleasent self....
:)

A HA!!!!

I found it.
Seems IOMEGA Zip drive, which didnt have the right drivers for serial for win2K anyway was creating a special (Virtual???) USB port. I tried uninstalling, but kept coming back on reboot.
This is what was causing the malfunction, and together with clearing the BIOS memory and setting it up from scratch again........

Windows recognized the USB port and the device!
Im good.

Thanks for listening to my rant.....
LOL
