I have a 512MB USB "memory stick".
I can read from it but I cannot write to it.
When I try and write to it I get the message "Drive protected".

The memory stick has no password function switch/tab!
How can I clear the "protection" from the memeory stick?

There should be a small switch, the size of a grain of rice somewhere on your memory stick, switch it to the other position and it should work. Regards

Jurgen

It would help immensely to have the make/model of the USB stick!

Otherwise, I would suggest you visit the manufacturer's site and search through their FAQ sections and knowledgebase.

The stick is a "Dane-Elec" 512MB

there is no memory protect switch anywhere on the unit.

I had the same problem. My memory stick was a Sony Memory Stick "PRO" and the reader didn't recognize it. It would read some times but never write.

The Sony Memory Stick is Guaranteed to work with every Sony device on the market... (from Dane-Elec site)

What kind of computer are you using?
