I logged on my machine earlier after installing a new amd2700+ cpu to find i could not move the mouse (optical intellimouse) and the mouse was not lit up.

I rebooted my machine on reboot the mouse was lit up but as soon as it got to winxp loading screen it went dead, upon checking the hardware device manager i noticed the usb host controller had disaapeared from the list.
I tried add new hardware but could find no listing for the usb controller to add it.

So anyone of you brilliant people have any ideas cause im fresh out being as i cant find the usb controller type on my mobo manual or any clues on the board itself.

Thanks in advance

O.k Shoot me, to make sure the new processor wouldnt cook or die thru being set wrong i cleared the cmos before powering on and somehow the usb ports got disabled on the cmos clear
Call me an idiot i know i did.

I am having that problem, how do i check the cmos to see if my usb ports are disabled??? Please help me out.

Hello: The USB controller for XP is installed with the service-pac1. In device manager, right click on the controller and update the driver. The driver should be in the system (32) folder. If that don't do it you may need to reinstall the service-pac. Also, try unpluging the USB mouse from your machine and plug it back. also, reinstall the mouse software. Just a couple of ideas!
