Anyone has successfully configure one of these Magtek USB to work with Micros I would greatly appreciate any info.
It scans but I get credit card not found.
Which Magtek USB are you talking about? Their latest encrypting readers are not compatible with Micros -- at least not if they are configured to encrypt.
Bring up notepade and swipe a card. If it looks something like the following, it is not encrypting the information and should be compatable. Otherwise you will need to see if the Magtek reader can be configured for non-secure mode (early versions were secure only, later ones can be configured for secure or non-secure).
Thanks for your post. I've found one of your earlier post about the same thing. I still have not been able to use these magteks with 9700. I know for CCs I have to use track1 and 2. I was told by the Magtek support that these USBs are reading all: 1,2,and 3. I have even disabled 3 but still no luck. When it is time to authorize I get "credit card type not found" but when manually entered, it does work. I am using the mini magtek USBs. The micros seems to recognize the USB because I see the CC is read.
How do you have the winstation setup in the configuration of the workstation? Are you using different drivers for the USB magtek?
Just wondering, are you using Shift4 as your gateway? If so, there are a few options that could be misconfigured and you should call their (our) 24x7 support and they can help you. The Shift4 driver tokenizes the card upon swipe so if it's misconfgured, "credit card type not found" is the symptom.
If you are not using Shift4, then I'm at a loss. We have several 9700 Windows workstations here and setup in various configurations. I'm not aware of anything special with the USB or Magtek drivers were using -- actually I'm not aware of any Magtek driver at all being installed, I think whatever Windows detects (a generic HID device of some sort) is what we use.
Again, if you're a Shift4 customer, give us a call. The department that deals with these issues are MUCH more knowledgeable than I in nitty-gritty hardware stuff.
I am not a Shift4 customer because i don't know what that is. I had more attempts and some more info from the Magtek people. If it is a true HID, it should not work in Notepad i was told. The USB uses windows drivers and even though it is listed under HID devices, the Magtek pulls their own drivers. Are you using the virtual com software from Magtek? Did you have to do any configuration on the magtek swiper? How is your workstation setup?
"If you go into the workstation configuration. (left, right, left & enter code) then go to mag stripe readers and enable PC keyboard reader and then save the configuration. This works on our UWS4 with a magtek USB reader."
You are my hero. Can't believe it was that easy. I had to bring the equpment to default settings. Probably that's why i had such a hard time. Works great.
Although everything works, I have one problem now. The keyboard doesn't work. This is a problem because if the scanner doesn't recognize a CC, we have to enter it manually. It is a hassle to use the mouse to enter the CC number. Do you know of a fix? Greatly appreciated.
That's a new one. I'm not aware of any of our customers using a keyboard and mouse at the clerk station -- all use touch screens. It sounds like the two USB devices are fighting with each other. The MagTek device requires the "PC keyboard reader" whereas the keyboard requires a different setting. I'll check with my crew again; maybe they have more info...
