When I connect a USB 2.0 hard drive to a PC running Windows ME, the "Unplug or Eject Hardware" Icon appears in the systray but I cannot see the drive in Windows Explorer. Any clues?

Have you installed the driver that was supplied with your USB2 drive?
Have you partioned and formatted the new hard drive?

Both operations required before the drive can be used.

Thanks for the quick response.

I didn't get any drivers with the drive as it was just an empty case into which I fitted a new hard drive. The hard drive is formatted and has data on it and works fine on my 2000/XP PC.

ME is FAT32 and XP is NTFS.

Won't the drive letter show in ME Explorer though even if the USB drive is NTFS? If it doesn't then that must be the problem?

Even empty case external hard drive enclosures come with a driver disk!
The enclose electronics have a controller chip that requires a driver under ME.
I recently bought one of these enclosures on ebay (it came with driver cdrom) I bought a differant brand (Trust) for a friend a month ago, it also came with a driver disk.
We now sell them in the shop and yes they also have drivers.

Sounds like that could be my problem. I'll have to see what controller chip is in it. Many thanks!

Cheers mkkier. Got driver from Ali.com but USB drive still doesn't show up! This is weird.
