Now that hardware is starting to come out with USB 2.0 (and Firewire) capabilities, I'm tempted to add in a card to put both USB 2.0 and Firewire on my machine.

From what I've seen, 3 of the major players in the new combo cards are Adaptec, SIIG, and Orange Micro. They seem to have similar cards, all with street prices of $100-110. Does anyone have any feedback/recommendations on this subject?

On the USB topic, are USB 1 cables suitable for USB 2.0 also? Or do they have too much loss/ capacity/ whatever to be reliable on USB 2.0? Also, how can one distinguish between a USB 2 and USB 1 cable if the 1's are are not as good as the 2's?

I have recently purchased a new Giga-byte 8IEXP motherboard which has USB 2.0. Everything in my device manager says ok, but none of my devices are being picked up as if they were not even plugged in. Any ideas. I have already updated my mobo bios to the latest and dloaded the latest usb 2.0 drivers for the mobo.

BTW my OS is Win XP Pro and I have a Giga-byte GA-8IEXP motherboard and cpu 1.8 intel with 512mb ram. Expansion USB2.0 slot is used and so is the firewire slot.
