URL's within sharepoint 2003

Our sharepoint server sits on our LAN and is published to external users through an ISA server. From the web people access the site by entering the URL

https://net."oursite".co.nz,

from inside users on the LAN can enter either the external address or

http://intranet

When we are logged onto the LAN and we make URL links from one page to another within the site they end up as

http://intranet/....etc.

This means that they only work from the LAN.
Can we set a default within the site so that every time we make a link it automatically enters

https://net."oursite".co.nz

instead of

http://intranet

?

Perhaps this could solve your problem. I have not tried this solution on our Intranet (yet), but from what I've read in the forums, it's a viable solution.

1. Open your site, go to Site Settings.

2. Under General Settings, go to "Go to SharePoint Portal Server central administration"

3. Under "Portal Site and Virtual Server Configuration", go to "Configure alternate portal site URLs for intranet, extranet, and custom access"

From here, you can configure internal, external, and other addresses. The description is:

Access Setting Information
Enter URLs that can be used for alternate access to the server identified by the default URL.
The URL can include the server name portion only. For example,

http://server.domain.com.

Do not include the portal site name, such as

http://server.domain.com/portal

site name.

All portal sites on the server share the same access mapping. The server will use the default URL when crawling content, and search results will use the default URL when no other access mapping is available.
