Urgent: The server is not configured for transactions

When I try to browse our network, I get the error message "Mycompany is not accessible - The server is not configured for transactions"
where mycompany is our domain.

From the domain controller, I CAN browse the network...
weird.
Any suggestions would really help.
Thanks.

Cool. I applied the changes, do you think the server will need a reboot for them to be effective?

Also, this server, and another server don't seem to be effected by the problem... they can both see the contents of the network and print without issue.

hold on, hold on!

You've checked for the possibility of a virus, right, your anti-virus software is up to date?

The changes in Q318755 won't apply until you reboot - BUT I would run

net share

first, to see what shares you have available. If you see (at least) c$ and ipc$ as well as your user shares, then Q318755 doesn't apply. If you don't see these shares, run

net share ipc$

and see if that has resolved the browse problem (although this won't survive a reboot). Then, if this works, and you're not virus infected, make the registry change (usual caveats about making a full system backup obviously apply).

We're clean on a virus scan.

When I run net share, I don't see any admin level shares C$ or IPC$....
And after i run net share IPC$
it says
IPC$ was shared successfully, but then when I run net share again to see the shares, the admin level shares don't show up. Will I just need a reboot?

I went into poledit to make sure it was set to automatically share these directories.

Thanks again for all your help.

Sure, go ahead and reboot. But your browsing problems should already be resolved now your IPC$ share is back.
