Hi All

Just finished an overhaul to our accountants system as their HDD crashed. I had no problems getting the Great Plains software to work again...simply copying over to the new drive always works fine. However, I now cannot get FRx to work anymore. It installs fine and I point to all the right data on our network but it will not open any Catalog files. It appears as if it can no longer find any of the reports or pointers to the old catalog ID's. When you try to select a catalog format he upper left corner of the screen...it says we need to define new catalog id's.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thnx!

Do you have a backup copy of the specification set (it would have been created under Company > Specification Set > Export). If so just import it back.

Assuming you have no backup, try copying the old Sysdata folder and subfolders over to your new install. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.

Are you talking about within FRx? I have tried to replace the spec set but not exactly sure how to go about it and if I didn't screw it up already. I do have the original files from the old HD if this helps. I have copied the old sysdata folders over as well and this didn't help. Would there be a copy of this somewhere else?

thanks for the quick reply.

Yes, the navigation in FRx is Company > Spec Set.

The export file would be named *.tdb, try searching for it then import.

I've only been able to get the folder copy method to work once. Frx is a real unstable pain.

That's strange because I can't find any tdb files at all. I even looked on the original drive and they don't exist there either. Doesn't seem to amke any sense as this happened once before a long time ago and we didn't have any problems with FRx. Could it be that this is because we installed FRx form the FRx cd and not from the Great Plains disk? I know this is a shot in the dark but I'm running out of ideas. There must be some way to get these catalogs back.

Just to note...I contacted MS Great Plains support and they won't help us at all. We need to upgrade or forget it.

Thnx Dave.

You won't have any *.tdb files if you didn't do an export/backup before the old system went down.

Are you copying all the .mdb, .ldb, .tpl files from the old sysdata to the new one?

Is your ODBC connection set up *exactly* the same as the old one was, same name, same server, etc?

Are your FRx Company > Information set up exactly the same way as before?

Is the new install on the same version and service pack as the old install? Compare the exe file sizes and dates.

Can you create any new working reports with your new install?

I don't have much experience with pre-v6 Frx, so these suggestions might not apply to you.

Dave,

Yes to all of the above. As for creating reports...we will try this but I'm sure this would work as well.

I did find a bunch of 32 files in the sysdataold and sysdataback directory. Perhaps these will work?
