hi all,
i have a 20 user with exchange server 2000 loaded in a win 2000 professional server.
few days back, may be 1 week before. there was nearly 900 mb space in the hard disk.within this week, immly there is no space in the hard disk. hard disk shows 1.5 mb free space.i have checked continuesoly monitoring all the files. i found PRIV1 (stream file) is increasing in size. what might be the reason? i have scanned with NAV for winNT. it says no virus found. right now my hard disk has no space. replies will be helpful to rectify this problem.
thanks a lot

Priv1.edb and Priv1.stm are you actualy mailstore files and will increase in size as people mail accounts increase in size.

You can try using the ESEUTIL to perform a drfrag on your database.

Are you using an Exchange Agent for backups? Using an exchange agent for backups will allow the log files to be flushed once a full backup has been taken.

Other than that you may just need to add another hard disk.

It's worth checking your normal anti-virus software is not scanning your exchange directories. This scanning is done in two ways:

1 - Real time scanning
2 - Scheduled scans

Ensure the following directories are excluded from both of these scan types:

Exchange directories... MDBDATA, MTADATA, #SERVER#.LOG, MAILROOT, SRSDATA
M:
C:\WINNT\NTDS
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\INETSRV

Scanning of these directories leads to vastly expanding information stores which is most pronounced in the most heavily used file, i.e. PRIV1.STM

After excluding the directories, an off-line defrag must be run to reduce the information store size back to normal. Remember to back up first!!

Also ensure in addition to NAV a proper Exchange based anti-virus software such as NAV For Exchange is also being used, as standard AV products do not protect against mail borne viruses.
