The client's gateway has to be the internal interface of the server. 10.0.0.21

we have an ip add of the eth0 127.0.0.1, is this the ip add of the server? ____________________________________________________

What?!? I think you're confusing yourself (and me).

In one of your first posts you said the server was 10.0.0.21.
127.0.0.1 is *not* the NIC address and eth0 does not have this address.

On Linux, type ifconfig to see the interfaces. Pick the internal one (where the client is) and put it in as a gateway on the client.

They're all your true ip address.
Is your Internet connection a modem connection??

Your have configured your NIC incorrectly (eth0).
I don't know how you do this with your distribution.

You have to find out which ip numbers are available on your network and pick one for the Linux box.
WHat the address and netmask for the windows PC??

Aahhh... I think I understand your setup now. You're running PPPoE (your net.card is connected directly to your ADSL modem)!! That's what confused me.

I've only set up PPPoE a few times and never really played around with it. I assume you can set it up with only one ethernet card.
To be on the safe side: Yes, you would need one more network card.

Where are you seeing the Apache test page? From the 98 box? I'm trying to get my head around this, here I go. You have ADSL thru Modem to Linux RH to Win98? RH box can get on the 'Net fine. 98 can see the test page on the RH box, but cannot get to a public website.
Is this correct? Thanks,

Matt Wray

What are you typing in to the 98 machine to see the Apache test page - the IP of the RH server??

What happens if you try to access a web page such as Have you set up DNS?? If not, then how will the Win98 machine know what is??
