Hi All,

I'm not a phone guy, and my experience with our Norstar Meridian system is very limited. Just got in the office, and the phone system does not seem to be working. It seems as if it's stuck on some type of initialization because all phones have all the buttons blinking (the arrows next to the buttons).
Some of the phones, who weren't blinking, had weird random ascii characters. After picking up and hanging up the receiver on these phones, it goes into the blinking (initialization?) buttons.

I did a hard reset (shut off all power) and it tries to initialize again.

Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

first check to see if your warranty/maintaince contract is paid up if not then look in the yellow pages under phone guy.... Not trying to be a funny guy but you have done the basic power reset, everything else involves a screw driver and a bit of skill. so here it is... Someone may have unplugged the ram cartrige out of the phone system when it was still powered up and corrupted data. a faulty ram cartrige or a power failure with the batteries that hold your system config failing can also cause this. Either way it dosn't sound like your phone system going to come back to life without a nuge. The screw driver and skill part... You havn't specified what type of system you have so I can't be specific. powerdown your system and look for the software cartrige If it has/is a pcmcia card (credit card sized) the battery that holds the memory is on the motherboard, pull the phone system apart and short the battery it will be about the size of 5 quarters stacked and it will be one if not the largest components on the board. If there is nothing that resembles a pcmcia the batteries are in the software cartrige pull it apart and short the battery(s)
this will WIPE OUT ALL DATA ON YOUR PHONE SYSTEM AND RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULT. but... you may not have to buy a new tel system or software you will have to get someone in to reprogram though. 1-3 hrs (or more ) depending on size of company.
best of luck... Westcoaster

Thanks for the reply. I followed your advice and called someone in (there was a company that offered emergency service). They replaced the KSU with another one and reprogrammed everything.

Now I have an extra KSU (going to do the reset thing you mentioned before) to "play around with." Any suggestions on where I can get some Norstar training? I am looking to learn how to setup the basic system.

I am unaware of any training that could be had reasonably. you might want to contact a local supplier and see if they will train you for an afternoon. Have fun learning and you "have nothing to lose" while playing on that extra system.
