Hello colleagues,
I need urgent help.
I am in the process to migrate a Modular Messaging system from version 3.0 to 5.0.
After running the preupgrade tool, I found out two errors,
Basically saying than if you don’t solve these problems, you cannot continue.
The errors are
/etc/password has some error (something along this line) and same for /etc/groupid…
I was looking here and there, but not able to find anything regarding that problem (and this is the exact example than in the documentation!)
I need some urgent help to fix the problem and continue with the upgrade.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

just to be more precise on the message...

/etc/passwd file has a problem, please contact system administrator
/etc/group file has a problem, please contact system administrator

This message is the same as on the power point for the pre-upgrade tool for MM.

I am still browsing the Avaya web, internet and talking to any one that I know with some experience on MM and the answer is silence, I can not believe nobody went throught this problem before.
Also a case was raise in Avaya, but no answer until now.

Thanks

you can ignore the errors. They are pointing to a password and a file that is not in 3.0 The super user.

Thanks for your answer Ken.
Well, thats what I was thinking but unfortunatelly I can not proceed with the upgrade until "all errors" are cleared and the screen shows a sentence in green saying all is fine.
Is not what I like, but thats the way my managers wanted.
In any case, don't worry.
I am exploring now some other issues as than the upgrade will take something like 36 to 40 hours :)

I try to find out how to seen the size for each subscriber voicemail and start asking them to delete unnecessary messages!

Thanks very much I appreciate the time you spend answer my question.

you will never get that error to clear. And it will not take that long to do.

Nurofen - Did you completed the upgrade OK in the end?
I am upgrading 3.1 to 5.1 soon and have seen the same error

Ken, are these errors safe to ignore i.e if I clear any other errors apart from these two am I safe to proceed?

Thanks

Yes I have done this before and as I said it is the fact that the Old software just doesn't have the group or user in it

another issue has been noted too around the PUVT, where it reports 'phantom' errors. To overcome this, you just need to remove and re-add the PUVT to the MSS and try it again and the errors should be gone.

FYI when i had this error it was reporting that the MAS backups didnt appear, but i could see them there.
