Hi all,
I had a small network(2 computers). It was affected by Nimda virus.I cleaned everything and it started working fine. But then I tried to intall MCAFEE evalution virus scan it started giving me stragne problems. So I thought of reinstalling the windows 2000 sever. It did not go welI.I am not able to do anything now.I tried to do an emergency repair. But it is giving me errors. The error says

Setup could not copy one or more files. The specific error code is Ox5.

If I tried to install(copy) from files from server CD the screen appears with

Status: configuring COM+ process .
and it stays for hours doing nothing. Please help.I am not able to do anythiing for the last one week.

I am assuming my registry is corrupted. Please let me know if anyone has any solution for the above problem.

Thanks alot in advance

Can you install a new copy of Windows Server? How much software is loaded onto it? I have found that the simplest method of recovering back to a workable system is to install a copy of Windows into a different directory, say c:\winnew and work from that. At least that way you won't lose any data on the server.

Just somethig that I remember, when Nimda first came out, Microsoft stated that the only way to have a fully cleaned system was to rebuild the system from scratch and apply all the relevant hotfixes to close up as many of the security holes as possible.

Hi all,
Thank You very much for the reply.
Can anyone tell how can I install into a different directory. When I try to install it is not asking any directory.

Thanks

If you go to symantec.com and search for Nmdia fix it will let you download a file to search and clean the infected files on your computer. Sounds like you really screwed the pooch by re-installing.
Too be honest it sounds like a complete rebuild.
Stupid question but you don't perhaps have a backup? :)
