I have found lost data in memos of clipper.

How can I fix corrupted memos in clipper table? I do have a version of dbase iii. If possible, please give more detail method of fix,as I am quite new to dbase iii.

In the ascii mode of sale_i.dbt, I did found info such as:

<eof>

 (R) disk full disk full .NTX
disk full -> -> -> C N L D M A UE UI U

Copy the database to a temporary database. Have a look and see if the problem is still there. If not then you're OK and can copy it back, otherwise you still have the problem.

It's not a bad idea to do this occasionally as Clipper handles memo data in a wasteful way and copying has the effect of "packing" the data.

It's difficult to recover corrupted memo data, but often the problem is related to incorrect pointers in the DBF memo field to the DBT data, which is stored in 512-byte blocks. There is an extremely handy, easy-to-use utility called DBTCHECK which actually does a more thorough job of cleaning up a DBT than just copying to "pack" the DBT.

Here's a useful link that explains a number of issues bearing on data corruption in Dbase files. It also includes links of its own to download DBTCHECK AND DBCLEAN:

Good luck!

To tell you the truth I gave up with memo fields and "do it myself" with ordinary data fields and a bit of software. It feels much safer.
