Client wants Microsoft type navigational "flyout" menu...
I'm going round and round and my client's unhappy. Any help will save my contract.

Yikes, maybe I should take the time to do a writeup on my caffeinated dropdowns. You don't need anywhere near that much javascript to do horizantal or vertical dropdowns (or both in the same page).

Check out this link for some rather bare examples: Or this one for an insite example:
All you need is the bare stylesheet and the first javascript section in the bare pages. After that it's all about nested lists and adding two classnames, "ddMenu" to get the generic menu elements from the CSS sheet, and then either ddHoriz or ddVert to get the vertical or horizantal menu stuff from the CSS.

I wish I had more time and my design skills were a little better then I would have more (and prettier) examples as well as a writeup for it. Unfortunatly I have been in the middle of a PHP package since I wrote those.

I appreciate all of your efforts. However, I'm still unable to solve this one. The gargoyle puzzle reminds me of an interview question. Using DHTML, how would you create a draggable tile puzzle game that scrambles automatically before each use? It was for an AJAX job.
Needless to say I didn't get it...but I would like to learn it if anyone knows the answer please let me know.

I replaced all the relative links with absolute. Can anyone tell me which ones I need to edit to borrow the "flyout" menu?

One more thing, only the parent menu works. The sub menus don't comply with css and don't have flyouts...???

There is an error that says that I don't have permissions. I wonder if that data is pulled???

An xml driven menu with a server side include would be ideal.

Anyone know how to add an ssi in Sharepoint?

It's clear that you don't understand the code above, or you wouldn't be posting here asking for help with it. However, I don't think that the code you've given is a good example to work from if you're a JS / CSS beginner.

You should probably try finding a much simpler, easy-to-integrate menu solution - there are many around, just look here for some examples:
One question bugs me, however... if you're a technical user, not a programmer / developer, why are you doing programming work for a client - shouldn't they get a developer in to do their development work?

If you want to load the data from an XML file, here is an example of doing so client-side:

The second page offers a crossbrowser method of dynamically generating HTML elements using XML DOM objects. With this you could easily build a list structure that would work with the menus that manarth and I pointed out. I think you would be better off not following microsofts example, especially since I can't see the flyout menus (not using IE).

If you go with XML loaded by DOM objects you won't need any server-side includes. If you have an accesioble server-side language (ASP, PHP, etc) than you might be better off doing the menu as an include file, since a list (ul,li,etc) is fairly basic and easy to modify.

Thank you for your help in this matter.
I found a simple css example that should work.
However, I would like to make it an ssi in a web part.
I guess, I should look for a Sharepoint forum for that.

SSI = Server Side Include

I don't see how that automatically qualifies it for a question for the Sharepoint forums... personally I would just google on the phrase and you'll have all your questions answered.
