I have a 120+ user exchange server, 1 user is suddenly unable to send mail externally, although eberyone else seems to be ok. It is not a pc problem as i have tried from other pc's unsuccesfully, no restrictions are in place, the email does not get as far as the fireall hence there seems to be a problem @ the server. Tried bouncing server but to no avail.

Help !!!

Does Exchange Server return any error messages? Is there any significant errors in the Event Viewer Logs? If so, please post.

Have you checked both the Information Store restrictions AND the actual user's mailbox restrictions?

no events logged, only NDR which states "the recipient name is not recognised" this message is received n matter who we try to send to extrnally.

Does the user have an email and x400 address? Maybe they have been delete by accident... unfortunatly, I no longer have an exchange 5.5 to guide you to the location...

yes, they are fine. Atleast same as every other user. No restrictions anywhere.

Can that user send mail to anyone else in the company and / or a test account outside (like a yahoo account)? Cause the message means that the address does not exist. (that the user is sending too)

internally ok, have tried external addresses that i know exist. It seems as thought the account does not recognise the name as an external address.

Did you physically type the addresses (something@something.com) or did you pick it from an address book? I've seen issues with address books before.

Otherwise, I'm out of ideas... maybe try exporting his mail, deleting the account and recreating it, then import his stuff back in. You can use Exmerge or just export / import from the users Outlook. (into a PST)

Typed address, in the process of doing the above, i suppose great minds think alike.

Thanks.

Hehe... sometimes the workaround is less headaches then the problem itself.

believe it or not that did not work !!!!!

Now im stumped.

Do it again, DON'T import his data and try and send an external email. I've never seen an issue where only ONE users does not work after recreating them.

Also, again, make sure those email and X400 addresses are correct once you recreate him.

If that don't work. Fire the person. (just kidding). :)

I had an issue once where one of my users moved locations and I had moved her mailbox. For some reason, her mail did not work and I had created and recreated her several times. Only by changing her alias did it finally work. I waited a couple of weeks and tried to return her to her original alias and it worked. We used aliases in CVS import files so they were important. If they are not as important for you, maybe you can modify it slightly and see what happens.
