Was having problem with Return-Path. Followed some suggestions in this forun (hostname host.com), that solved my Return-Path but 10 minutes later, no mail is going out

All mail stuck in /usr/spool/mail (SCO Unix 3.2v5.0.6).

I reversed back to hostname oldhost.com and then, I ran
/etc/init.d/sendmail stop/start

Nothing ... It's dead!

What do I do? Please help !!!!

Take a look at the output of the 'mailq' command and see if your mail in /var/spool/mail or mqueue is recognized by sendmail and if there are any errors associated with sending the mail (i.e. domain lookup failure or something more specific than its just sitting there).

Also, look at /var/spool/mail or mqueue and see if there are both df and qf files (also make sure it is a q and not a Q - sendmail will not send the mail if it starts with Q). Perform a 'sendmail -q' which should attempt to force the mail out.

Finally, there may be one message in the directory that is causing all of your problems - sendmail may try and send everything, but die on a particular email. I would move all of the df and qf files into a tmp directory and try and send mail through your server again with a fresh mqueue/mail directory.

Other than that, check your log files and see if you are getting any error messages associated with the sending (that should be the first place you look to see what exactly is going on...). If none of the above seems to work, please take a look at your log files (messages/syslog and mail errors) and see if there is anything that stands out. If there is, please post a sanatized version of a few lines of what you are seeing - its a lot easier to troubleshoot if we can see any error messasges you may be seeing.

Hope this helps,
Paul
