Hi Guys,

I have an application that's back end file keeps getting larger - we've had it only a week and before compressed it's around 8Mb. (Lots of data input - only about 8 users)

Anyone have any news, ideas or suggestions about upsizing to something like MSDE. SQL Server is out of the question for the foreseeable future but MSDE seems like a good (semi) alternative!

Cheers,

Steve.

MSDE is optimized for only 5 users (not sure if actually limited to this though).

Have you had a look at SQL Server 2005 Express Edition?

8Mb of data is not a large database. It would be of more relevance to check the growth in a week i.e. finish size less start size.

Also are you holding graphics in your data? They are an easy way to cause "bloat".

Hey,

SQL Server 2005 Express isn't full released yet is it? (RC1 I think)

Whilst 8Mb isn't a big DB, it's grown from 0.2Mb to 2Mb in 4 days. (After repair / compress)

The file in question is just the back-end file. Tables only with no graphics.

Cheers,

Steve.

They're the same thing.

MSDE allows 5 threads concurrently. I think it allows more than 5 threads but the sixth onwards will have to queue. It can handle more than 5 users but the thread limit is intended to slow down anything apart from a small workgroup application.
