I have a question on uploading IOS - Do I upload the file as is from cisco as an .exe or do I upload the file after it uncompresses?

Sorry, I said IOS but;
I am trying to upload 342 firmware - not an IOS - file download as an .exe - becomes an .450 when I double click on it -
