Upgrading XP Home to Professional

One of our consultants upgraded his XP Home Edition laptop with an XP Professional upgrade primarily to attach to our network.

I have created an account for him in NT and his machine is listed on the DHCP server, but I cannot join the domain.

Any suggestions?

Right click my computer > click properties > Click the 'computer name' tab > click the 'change' button>add the domain name > click Ok > the PC will werr and clunk and you should then get asked for a user name and password with permission to add the PC to the domain > if this goes ok you will get a 'welcome to the XXXX domain' message.

I failed to mention that I did right click My Computer and did change the name and tried to join the domain, but I simply get errors.

I noticed in his user accounts that he's the only one listed and even tho he's an administrator, there is not an administrator account listed.

He has a NW card and wireless network and the wireless network noticed his pc first. That is disabled as well.

What are the error messages that you are getting? are you using an account with the specific permission 'join computers to the domain' this is not a default permission.

I finally got it to work, but something that I had totally forgotten was to log on as administrator and set him up as a user. And it worked fine.

What a dork! Sorry.
