Upgrading to Samba 2.2

Hello and thanks for looking.

Im running RH 7.0 with Samba 2.0.7-21ssl. We have recently introduced some Windows 2000 machines that we would like to participate in our domain (Samba is acting as a Domain Controller).

I've downloaded the following rpm (samba-2.2.0-20010417.i386.rpm) from Samba.org and have issued the following command:

rpm -Uvh samba-2.2.0-*.rpm

but linux reports conflicts and does not perform upgrade.

Can anyone offer any assistance on how to upgrade to the newer version?

Hi,

It all depends on the nature of the dependency errors - what does it actually say when you do 'rpm -Uvh samba-2.2.0-*.rpm' ?

Hi,

The conflicts are because you have other samba rpms from a prior (redhat) version. Just to be different, redhat package samba in four bits whereas samba themselves put it all in one rpm. I'd suggest downloading the following (they are RH7.2 rpms) to a separate directory...

ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/redhat/7.2/en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/samba-2.2.1a-4.i386.rpm
ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/redhat/7.2/en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/samba-client-2.2.1a-4.i386.rpm
ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/redhat/7.2/en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/samba-common-2.2.1a-4.i386.rpm
ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/redhat/7.2/en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/samba-swat-2.2.1a-4.i386.rpm

Then 'cd' to that directory and do :

rpm -Uvh samba*.rpm

Thats it really.
