I am looking to upgrade to 7.6.200. I am currently running 7.6.100a, Microsoft SQL 2000. In the past I have had my reseller come and do the upgrade, but I'm thinking of doing it myself this time. I printed out the instructions from the CD. The only thing I'm confused about is which fixes from Macola's website do I download once I've upgraded. Do I just do 7.6.200.5.exe? I'm assuming that one is the latest and greatest? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help. Vanessa

Vanessa, As long as you follow the directions you should be fine with upgrade process. The Pre_update is really the only added step. The issue is the individual workstations updates. Usually you will run into problems during the install process, typically fujitsu errors. Older machines will suffer in performance. If you are running Win98 first edition you will most probably have issues. Printing will be an issue, even with the .5 patch. There are also other scattered dlls you may need above and beyond the .5 for other issues. XP with impact printers will be the most problematic.

We are running XP and 2000 workstations. What kind of printing problems will I experience?

You might have problems if you have custom page sizes, such as invoices or checks. Macola may not recognize the page size when it sends the command to the printer. They are many docs on printing on Exact's portal.

Call me chicken. Isn't it too early to go with that release?

Just to expand - if you read the release notes on 7.6.300 there is a VERY lengthy list of 7.6.200 'problems' (functional disenhancements?) that are corrected in 7.6.300. Of course, there is also the enhancments - AP reapply option for credits, PO master orders, and a number of OE pricing and printing changes...

Chicken! It could be a little early, but given that it addresses a lot of the problems that were part of 7.6.200, I would think it would be a better option. I have one fairly large client that are running 7.6.300 and apart from the problems listed in Macola's 'Hot Topics' it seems to be running fine. The 'Hot Topic' I'm referring to is the one where invoices print for non-selected OE orders...

Thank you for your responses. I am now leaning toward .300.

If you don't have direct macola support for the extra $$, I don't think you should do it yourself. 7.6.300 includes new functionality that is formerly Peak Best of OE. Without knowledge of what files to initialize, setups to perform, etc., you could create an installation that may later need to be modified. If 7.6.300 dealt with the myriad printing problems moving to fujitsu, maybe it would be a better choice. As resellers, we've learned some tricks & "gotchyas" over time that can get an installing running that are not included in the directions.

re: - the new OE files are initialized...

What if you already have Peak's Beast of OE installed and operational? Am I going to loose my data?

Unless there has been a new development, you cannot upgrade to 7.6.200 or higher with Peak's OE Best. This is related to the Microfocus to Fujitsu compiler issue.

Not only that, none of your other enhancements -- i.e. your *proged.lbr files -- will work. 7.6.200 is totally different in this way. 7.6.200 when installed as a new install does not even have a programs directory, everything is a .dll.

Your data should be fine however I doubt that you will make the move given the above info.

Peak does have a release for 7.6.200 & 200.5. I have it running at 2 sites so far. They create a bined directory now and their dlls go in there. From what I hear about 7.6.300, it sounds as if macola didn't move the peak code into the generic code the same way peak does it. Hence, the problems with status 1 orders going into invoicing when they shouldn't. Not being one to enjoy the bleeding edge of macola updates, I've lain back and waited to hear what the rest of you have encountered. I am now planning to put it on my internal system as I have a client who is interested in some of this new functionality that has never owned peak. I'm very familiar with best of oe, so I can determine if 7.6.300 breaks anything. I think, for akpolarbear, there should be no reason to lose your data. The reason the files are initialized at a new site is simply because the programs open those files & they haven't existed if the peak enhancements were never at the site.

FYI - I believe any site that has modified code has the bined direcory - it's my understanding that Macola's applications look in the bined folder first for any DLL it's loading, then falls back to the bin folder for the unmodified/standard DLL if it can't find one.
