Hi all, my customer has an ip406v2 with embedded voicemail. They want 'dial by name' which is now available for embedded vmail with 5.0. So I will be upgrading them from 4.1.12. Are there any issues I should know about? What are people's thoughts on the new software release?
Thanks.

Missing prompts are what I warned about.

Interesting Kyle that Avaya know about this but there is nothing on the caveats site about it......they must find the extra money from people assuming they have bust it and buying a new card more appealing than letting people know they know about it and how to fix it without going through the ball ache of getting to tier 3 in the first place :)

useful info Kyle!

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

Update! I ended up dragging over the prompt files from progam files/avaya/ipoffice/ manager into the embedded file management configuration. Everything works fine.
The weird thing is, when I upgraded to 5.0 some of the programming got screwed up. For example ext 100 is their receptionist, ext 101 is their fax line. After the upgrade, ext 101 was ticked in the huntgroup. So, all calls were going to the fax line. It seemed to have swapped the exts around for the huntgroup and incoming call routes just for the main line and fax line. Didn't take long to change it back though. Anyone ever here of that issue?

Just put a backup back in the system you have made before you started upgrading

What about a install of embedded voicemail from a totally new system? Has anyone had any troubles?

I have a IP500 (no OS yet) and a new embedded vm card.

Should I load 4.2 first and then do the lvm upgrade from the r5 folder like Kyle mentioned, then upgrade the IP500 to r5?

thanks,
Dphoneguy24

I don't think you can go wrong on a new install using this:

Put the card in a cardreader and copy all directory's from the C:\Program Files\Avaya\IP Office\Manager\LVMSound\ to the lvmail folder of the flashcard. Overwrite when needed.

Using a cardreader copies the files in about 4 to 10 minutes instead of 1 hour using the tftp batchfile.

I'm doing a fresh 5.0 install with a new IPO (no OS) and embedded card on Wednesday. Just so I'm clear, I CAN use the R5 manager install with the TFTP batch file but NOT the embedded file util to upgrade the prompts, correct? No need for a 4.2 downgrade, etc.?

I don't have a PCMCIA card reader (although they may have an old laptop at this company I'm doing the work for)...

Thanks,
Waldron

Just to clarify - this is what I'm going to do on the new IP 500/R5 with embedded. This is okay/kosher to execute, yes?

Transferring Prompt Files Using TFTP
1. Extract the set of prompt files to a temporary location on your PC as detailed above.
2. Start IP Office Manager and receive the IP Office configuration.
3. Display the System configuration form.
4. Click the System tab.
5. In the File Writer IP Address box, type the IP address of the PC that you are using for the file transfer.
6. Click icon save config to send this configuration back to the control unit and allow it to reboot.
7. Open a Command prompt window (Start | Run | cmd).
8. Change the file path to the location where you have extracted the prompts.
• Upgrading Existing Prompts
Run the separate batch files Upgrade4p0_711.bat, Upgrade4p2_771.bat and Upgrade5p0_711.bat to transfer just the new prompts since IP Office 3.2.
• Transfer All Prompts
Type send711 followed by the IP Office's LAN1 IP address, for example send711 192.168.42.1. The batch file will start transferring all the necessary folders and prompt files. The whole process of transferring the prompt files can take up to 40 minutes.
9. When all the files have been transferred, close the Command prompt window.
10. If this upgrading of the prompts was performed as part of the first time installation of Embedded Voicemail, proceed to System Configuration to enable the use of Embedded Voicemail by the IP Office system.
11. Restart the IP Office control unit by removing and then reapplying power.
12. When the IP Office has restarted, wait approximately 10 minutes while it scans the new prompts that are available.
13. The IP Office Monitor application can be used to monitor this activity.
14. Test Embedded Voicemail operation by dialing *17 at an extension. Embedded Voicemail should answer and start to give you prompts.
