HI Everybody,
I am trying to install Mac OS X 10.2 on my Mac system which has OS 9.0. I get the message that "cannot continue installation, there is no previous version of Mac OS X" on this system. OK.. anyone have any ideas that they care to share :>).

Thank You,
Quincelady

On this particular keyboard the two keys on either side of the space bar are ALT. I hold them both down and boot but the OS X loads. :<(

OK.. I found the windows keys(next to the alt...duh). I held them down while booting up but the OS X still loaded .

is OSX actually booting????
or is it hanging after you enter the username and password??

I'm confused... if you get the option to log out, then it must have booted?

Can you see the dock at the bottom of the screen?

if so click on the system preferences then click on startup disk, then click on OS 9 then restart

It installed but only partially. I boots but then when I try to open first aid it gives a message,"There is no application to open the document". In addition, the folder at the bottom IE: Internet ExplorerSherolcik, System Preferneces, etc. do not open when I click on them.I log out option then I try to log in with my usename and password but it does not accept it. I guess this is because it JUST INSTALLED and did not ask for username and password.

Stupid questions:

1. Do you have a second Mac?
2. Do your Macs have firewire?

If the answers are "yes" and "yes", try booting the dead mac while holding down the clover-leaf/apple key and the T key. You should see it boot into "target mode" where the only thing you see on the screen is a firewire logo.

If/when that happens, plug a firewire cable into the two Macs. The dead Mac should appear as a disk drive on the other Mac. Copy the files off. Reformat the hard drive. Re-install.

Sorry, but that's the only solution I can think of at this point.

OK![thumbsup2] Everbody,
I unplugged the hard drive from the MOBO and booted up holding down the C key with the Re-Store 9.0 in the CD. It booted and started to proceed thru the restore process when I plugged in the hard drive again. Success! I am perfectly happy just being able to get it back to where it was before this nightmare began.

Thank You all for your support and helpful ideas. May you all have a blessed holiday season and a Happy and Healthy New Year[smile2]!

Blessings,
Melinda

Hello Again,
Everything is working fine. I even downloaded 9.1 from the iMAC support site. One lil problem. I get audio but no video when I play a DVD. Any suggestions?

Thanks Again[smile2],
Melinda

I Gave Up on OS X. I was able to restore OS 9.0 and then download 9.1. But I cannot get the DVD player to play. It does have audio but no video.

OK Marcus... will do... Thanks! I'll let you know if if worked[smile]
