we recently purchased a used micros system off ebay.... we've redone all the menus and interfaces and whatnot. now we're onto setting up the credit card auth and the bank has told me that we need to upgrade to e7 v2.5 or higher. I tried calling micros, but since we did not purchase our system from them they clearly would not help me.

basically what i need to know is; why do i need to upgrade our system in order to run cc auth? And, if so, how cna i do this if i am unable to get the upgrade software from micros.

i am currently running e7 V2.1.1184.0 Patch 4b

Hi,

The current version is 3.0 MR2, your licence key will work with all versions EXCEPT 3.0 & 3.0 MR1 as backward compatability for licences was not added until MR2.

I have uploaded the RMF doc for this latest version & you will see that your software is still PCI compliant. I would upgrade to V3 MR2 if I wanted the additional features which are:
* Table objects / floorplans
* Inventory modules / stock management (time consuming but really good, cant export those reports to excel etc though either!)
* EOD can include Journal backup / archiving!

1st you need to realize how absurd Micros's response was to your request for help. IE: Imagine if you drove your Ford vehicle into a Ford Dealership for needed repairs and they sent you away because "you didn't buy your vehicle here". You'd strangle someone. Call Micros corporate and explain that you "own a Micros POS and your Micros local Dealer has refused you service". DO NOT accept the local Dealers response. If Micros Corporate refuses to get the Dealer off thier butt then post that decision here and it will become a valuable lesson for all of those restaurants considering purchasing a Micros POS system.

thank you pinks and thor, the issue with calling micros is that we purchased a system from a private seller not associated with the company in any way. The product keys are non transferable. Therefore, I do not have any access to the micros website to download updates. (from what i can find on there i need to login to get to the download area)

Micros will not help me unless i give them my address and business info. They told me that since the product keys cannot be transferred, they need to reprogram them and charge us for them... (in case you didnt know, this apparently costs 600 dollars per usb key)

So i guess basically what i am asking for is a way to get the .exe file to update my system without going through micros.

Hi,
THere is a clause in their licence agreement that states that the software cant be leased, resold or the data contained therein (such as cc or guest info) resold.

You havent said which version you want, I have them all but you never got this from me.
Installation RMF: Installation Instructions:
Below is WS4 & WS4LX software, and an E7 manual

There may be the need to do BIOS / Platform upgrades. What are you running?

Thank you pinks, i didnt see you had attached that link earlier.. i will post again tomorrow when i'm in front of the box and know all the info.

one extra question however, from the info that i have been reading... it seems to me that v2.1 is pci compliant, so why would i need to upgrade my system to run credit cards through the pos boxes?

Precisely! Your version is already PCI compliant. Plenty of reading to keep you busy. If you could look at the wallpaper on the workstation and tell us what is reads for Platform & Version would be good, You can also install the Server version onto a pc, its small & light, and only needs a licence key if you run reports on it. Flipside is you can only ever run transactions on workstations anyway.

One more thing: In the 3.0 MR2 RMF doc it reads:

For information on upgrading a MICROS e7 system from a non-PCI compliant version to a PCI compliant version see the MICROS e7 Version 2.7 Payment Application Best Practices Implementation Guide, MD0007-032 documentation.

I interpret this as meaning that they have only tested & confirmed PCI compliance to this level. You will find the later versions have not been tested.
2.7.41.0 is the version they have tested to.
Let me know if u want that I i will post it on FTP

this is all the info i can gather off the server and the workstations. I am running 2 terminals and one server.

Micros e7 Info:
System build, database, ops, devices, configurator, reports, procedures, batch utility version - 2.1.1184.0 patch 4b
Schema version - 2.7
e7 TIF universal credit card driver - 1.0.0.17

Server Box/OS Info:
XP PRO version 2002 SP2
Pentium 4 2.93GHz
248 MB RAM

Terminal Box/OS Info
CE .NET version 4.2 build 14.4
processor type: national semiconductor Corp, Geode GXm
102 MB RAM

ok,

so what kind of workstation is it:
WS4 has green LED on the front, only 2 USB ports in the rear
WS4LX has blue LED on the front, 4 USB ports
WS5 is the large screen, the latest.

Once I have this info I will upload PC software & workstation software for you with docs. The version will be 2.7.41 as this is the highest version that has been tested & confirmed PCI compliant

Steve

sorry, forgot to put that in there. the workstation is ws4.

thanks pinks, one final question... in order to run credit cards through the workstation, do i need to have merchantlink? i have found some alternative providers, but i dont understand why i need another middle man/program.

Hi,
Not sure on that to be honest. I am in Australia & here Micros run their own payment gateway, in the US you have a lot more options. The way Micros works here is that you install a Cetificate, install drivers (TIFUCCD.DLL) and then configure as per instructions. Here:

Install Credit Card Driver Files
1. E7 has two version of credit card driver, one is for server only, and another is for workstation only. Before you install driver, please confirm system process credit card transaction and batch on server or on one workstation.
2. Unzip the credit card driver server installation package to E7 Server temporary folder.
3. Exit e7 system.
4. Override copy driver file (TIFUCCD.dll) to MICROS\e7\Bin folder.
5. Copy certificate file (MICROS_e7.cer) to MICROS\e7\Bin folder.
6. If install driver to a workstation, unzip the credit card driver workstation installation package to a USB disk. Plug USB disk to workstation and override copy driver file (TIFUCCD.dll) to CF\MICROS\e7\Bin folder.

Check with your provider what is needed, the *.cer will be issued by them.
