Other than replacing the processor w/ the Magix style, is it possible to convert the existing Legend R3.1 translations to Magix R4.0? Never attempted this big of a release jump and not sure it will convert correctly.

I should convert just fine. The only problem could be that most likely you have a CKE3 processor which cannot support the 16 Port Extension Modules.

That may not be an issue now, but down the road it could bite you.

I do know that some Legend R3.1 processors were factory made using the CKE4 hardware.

I have upgraded numerous Legend r3's to a Magix r4.7 with no
problems....however that said...the upgraded processors were in smaller systems and had no 0x16 mlx or T1 cards.
I would still acquire another R3 to do your software upgrade
and then convert the translations. you won't be sorry you did.
Then IF down the road, your Magix is expanded, then find
youself a cheap R4 or R5 and then do your upgrade...simple.

Sounds to me like you're going to swap out the processor all together. So, download the current Legend translations to your PC, use WinSPM to convert them to Magix R4, swap the processors, and upload the new translation file.

If you have a spare backplane and power supply, upload the translations to the Magix processor in the spare first, then your downtime in swapping the processors will be just a few minutes.

Words to live by...I agree w/ TTT...doing the upgrade on a
test bench switch...will guarantee the upgrade and convert
went as planned...replacing the new processor will be quick
and simple.

Thanks TTT. That's what I was planning to do if it would indeed convert. I'd rather have it fail in the lab then onsite in front of the customer.

And merlinman, it looks like I lucked out and got one of the factory CKE4 processors. See sys setup below...

Slot # 0: CKE4 CPU
A Slot # 1: 408 GLM-U
A Slot # 2: 408 GLM-U
A Slot # 3: 408 GLM-U
A Slot # 4: 008 MLX-U
A Slot # 5: 008 MLX-U
A Slot # 6: 408 GS/LS
A Slot # 7: 408 GS/LS
A Slot # 8: 408 GS/LS A Slot # 9: 800 DID
A Slot # 10: 016 TRR

Thanks guys!

MM "Do they still use the OLD ATL type sets?" Are you kidding me...there are thousands of those ATL sets still
in use..what a great incentive to upgrade to a Legend...
They could keep their old tel sets...you see in this forum
and other forum sites...the questions techs ask about 410,
820,820 plus and of course the 1030/3070 series...they will
be around for awhile!!!!!

FordMan77 are the (3) 4x8 ckt packs still being used???. That is to say..are the station ports connected to merlin
tel sets or is dial tone going to the CO ports?

I knew there was something I was forgetting, lol... The ATL boards.

I'm going to have to contact the customer and find out. I know they were in the process of switching over to all MLX sets, but there still may be some BIS phones out there.
