Upgrading from Crystal 4.6 to 8 1

Could anyone give me tips and cautions as to what I can expect if I wish to upgrade and entire application's reports from version 4.6 to 8?

I know that I need to change the crystal runtime and it's references within my vb application. However, are there any complications on the designed screens (reports) itself? Would I have to re-design? If re-design is necessary - what are the things to look out for?

I sort of did that and am having serious problems. What I did was to change the database location on 4.6 reports with my 8.5 Crystal and it automatically upgraded the reports. I can view them fine, but the clients cannot. I am searching for the correct dlls(?) to put on their machines but so far have had no luck, so if you find any info about this, I will be interested too.

If you are planning on sticking with the ActiveX Control in your application, I can see some issues arising, but these are easily countered.

You should also read and familiarize yourself with the runtime.hlp file on your dev machine. There is a topic included "Crystal Reports ActiveX Control (OCX)" that will tell you exaclty what files you need to deploy.


You [both] may want to have a look at the following CD paper for some application upgrades to avoid having your applications run into unsupported territory as the OCX has been deprecated for some time now and is not longer shipping with the CR product. It for sure will not be able to handle the viewing of any v9 reports.
