I'm more than likely going to have to do a remote upgrade today at short notice. It's a IP500 on 4.0 with 30 DS phones attached to a DS30 and around 60 IP phones.

I'm planning to upgrade VM Lite first (along with the admin suite). Then go for it!

Will any of the phones upgrade? They are virtually all 5x02's with 3 5610's.

Just upgraded a site from 4.0 to 4.1. There were no ip phones but loads of 5410's. No phone upgrades took place. Don't think the IP phones will either.

Pay attention on the ds30 modules
I asume they are ds30V2 !!!
Those need to be upgraded to 3.2.999 first !!!

After that you can upgrade the ip500 too
With 4.1.12 the phones will download new firmware
Do not use monitor for this because it only can handle 5 at the moment
You really need a thirt party tftp server for this
If i am honest i would go on site because it is a lot of work to be remote and if something goes wrong you do not see that !

Hmm, new phone firmware was what I was afraid of. We do only have manager to act as an FTP server. If I had the choice I would wait until I'm on site but the client is jumping up and down.

The phones should sit and retry showing tftp timeout shouldn't they? At worst get the client to walk round and reboot any that haven't come up?

Do you have to do the 3.2999 interim upgrade every time you upgrade?

Oeps no you are right

Only if they are new or a major upgrade
But you are on 4.0 at least so not needed
You could upgrade the manager and remove all the files for the phone's and then upgrade
Do not forget to remove the 46xxupgrade.scr
The phones keep working
Then you can upgrade them later when you are on site

Tom Mills is correct, 4.0.5 did not upgrade the phones. We all got submarined on that on on the the next release of 4.0. It is a good thing that they revised the firmware. Just be ready.

Done it :)

None of the IP phones upgraded. Well, not as far as I can see anyway. They came back up way too quickly to have gone through the update procss.

All seems good!
