The reason this customer is upgrading they want to add more extensions and need a second fiber module and another extension module. As we all know to do this we need XC software or better. I tried to backup system before the upgrade and discovered 1.1 SW doesn't support system backup. My concern is that I will lose all of the existing programming
I am using the upgrade tool. should I be concerned about losing the programming. What programming will be necessary after the upgrade? I know I will probably have to change line numbering 025 = 031 In line pools. probably the same in the voicemail auto attendant, lines

you are prob better off just doing a startup an reprog from scratch ...i have found that the upgrades should have been done in a 2 step sequence just like the newer 7.0 upgrades and you should really go to 4.1 then 6.0...also must upgrade vm first...nam needs to be 4.0 and flash need to be 2.0 starttalk is not compatible with 6.0 and why would you not go to 7.0 anyway

If i lived in colorado i would be skiing already. But i dont so its a long 4 weeks till opening day.

1. You dont need XC or better (there is no better btw).
2. You dont even need to upgrade the software period.
3 Just power down the system and slap in your second expansion card, plug in your 0X16 and power everything back up.
4. If for some reason there is another need to upgrade to 7.0 then you need to buy/borrow 4.1 and 6.1 software cards.
Use the tool to get you to 4.1 (only) then upgrade to 6.1 then to 7.0. And yes your right on the line programming.

Curlycord why do you say you don't need xc software? Phonetool how many moduals are on the system now?

XC is required if the first 6 port expansion card is full.
I wrote an FAQ on these upgrades.
Short answer is if you are already running 6 modules you must use XC software.
However there is more danger and hardware cost in upgrading the software multiple levels to 7.0 XC then if you were simply to install 1.1 XC for this customer.
You risk software corruption or a startup.
If they are not running CallPilot or intend to install PRI I see no compelling argument to upgrade to 7.0.
Moral of the story:
If it ain't broke then don't fix it.

I dont know why I said that, I must have been thinking T1 Rel1 but even then the second slot was not used was it?

R1T1 XC also supported the second exp slot
XC just means the software supports Companion and the second DS30 expansion slot
XC= eXtended Companion

Thank you guys for responding so quickly. That really saved the day Especially the post about the NAM compatibility
that customer has NAM Application Module NT5B75AJ-93
REL 03
02/24/96 MODEL 4
I would have been out there on the site all-night.
We are still trying to decide whether to just do the
1.1 to 1.1xc OR 1.1 TO 3.0 XC . some of the guys that give us tech support are telling us no matter what we do we are going to have to reprogram the system from scratch.
Others are telling us we will not lose the programming.
They are also saying we do not need a XC upgrade tool
is that true.
This is a company that does medical
there can only be minimal downtime
so the main thing is trying to save the data and avoid reprogramming.
They have stuff like what some people call a poor man's ACD
phantom dn's and answer dn's set up on all of the phones
what a mess.

You may lose speed dials and service mode programming going to 3.0 XC
You will not need the upgrade tool to go to 3.0 XC nor do I expect you will lose any programming
Also the NAM NVM software requirement would be 3.0
To confirm this software version press feature 983 and login then press 9
There is no danger in upgrading to 1.1XC either
You only need the upgrade tool if you plan to upgrade past or to KSU version 4.0
I would lean towards a 1.1XC for simplicity sake if your voicemail is not already at 3.0 or higher

Thanks for the reply. I have another question the guys we get support from says there is an upgrade tool to go from 1.1 to 2.0 . is this true? and if so is it necessary? Our main concern is saving the existing programming
They are suggesting 2.0 because of improvement on target lines and also that there is a upgrade tool available for this.

this is nuts
Read my previous post:
