Need some opinions on this. Currently have an 61C with CPIV processors rel 4.5 with 4 IPE shelves. Customer wants to go to a 1000e with the new CPPM processors rel 5.5 software. They want to move the analog and digital cards from the IPE shelves into the new Media Gateways. I am looking for ideas on how to accomplish this.

You can do it, as long as you have slots. 4 slots per shelf 8 with expander.

Thanks, I have plenty of slots. So you are telling me that an old Tn of say 4 0 12 0 will change to a new tn in a media gateway that only goes up to slot 10? What would it change to? I have never done this so any help is appreciated. Just trying to get a picture in my mind on how I am going to move my cables from the IPE's to the MG's.

Step one. Clear out cards 5 and 6 on each existing IPE shelf by moving TN's

Step 2 -- the database will be migrated as part of the Upgrade Process. Since you are going to receive a new Security Dongle as part of the upgrade, you can do this in parallel without touching the existing system.

Step 3 -- tweak the DB in the new system as necessary. You have the existing running for stare-and-compare purposes

Step 4 -- move the cables from the IPE shelves to the new MGs on cut day.

Lots of little steps omitted, but this is a simple task.

Sorry, I meant to say RELATIVELY simple task. Take your time and dot the i's and cross the t's and you will be fine.

Don't forget to return the old dongle to the vendor for decommissioning when the new system is live.

Hi MagnaRGP

Are you sure, that the database will be migrated.

We are right now installing a new CPPM with HA, instead of our customer's old M81C. I have tried to convert the old database to the CPPM. It is possible, but all 13 PRI now reside in the same loop 252 1 0, and all the D channels are on 252 0 0. Nortel have cleaned the CPPM structure, but says that
"Option 81c release 4.5 system to 1000E release 5.0 is NOT a supported upgrade procedure because of the difference in system architecture. There is no procedure listed in the NTP." They are not happy with this, so I have to program it all over again

I'm not sure if it is because it is a M81C, maybe it works on 61C
