Is it possible?

copy the firmware files (2410_R5.bin and 2420_R5.bin), which you have downloaded from support.avaya.com to your TFTP server, FYI if you have an S8300, you can copy the files to the /tftpboot directory, and use the S8300 as your TFTP server. Setup a node-name for this TFTP server.
Then do a "change tftp", put in your CLAN node name (or PROCR if an S8300), and then the TFTP server node name. Leave the port set to 69, then type the file name in... The switch will looad the firmware into the CLAN card.

Now you have 2 ways to upgrade phones:
"change firmware station"

or

You can setup a station firmware feature code, and walk around typing in the feature code, to upgrade them.

I use the "change firmware station" because I upgrade the phones remotely, late at night, to avoid outages at the client site. It takes 5-7 minutes per phone to upgrade, and depending on the CM release and the firmware on your TN2224CP or MM717 (depending on what kind of system you have), it will only do 1 phone per circuit pack at the saem time. Newer firmware will support up to 4 simultaneous upgrades per circuit card.

Hey Mitch,
which firmware supports the 4 phones per card?

We have a dilemma. We have (had) two brand new 2420 V3 phones. We plugged the first one in, and,dis *36 (our FEA code for FW downloads). It didn't work. In fact, it wiped out the FW, and, now it is saying....
No Application Firmware
Phone Features Not Available
Download denied (01).....V2.01P

We plugged in another phone (V3), and, it automatically went to the dowanload denied, and, is V1.00. So, now, we have two phones that are just paperweights.

We looked in the PBX, and, the TFTP Server Configuration shows that the file is no longer in Memory. FYI, We have another PBX that shows the TFTP file download status is intact. We uploaded the firmware to the PBX (again), and, were unable to get these two paperweights to remember that they are phones. We are afraid to try anything else.

Also, if we turn off the TFTP-Server on the PC, in a few minutes, the "Filename in Memory" goes away when typing "display tftp-server". I have done this several times before, and, this is the first time I have had this type of problem.

?????

thank you,

Marilynn

I forgot to mention that I am running G3R CM
System: G3rV11 Software Version: R011r.03.2.536.1

rgtrgt, on the MM712/MM717, or MM312 on the G700/G350, FW008 supports multiple downloads concurently. Of course you also have to have CM4 as well I beleive.

You need to leave the TFTP server running. 3CDAEMON can be left on almost any server you have, and takes very little overhead.

Don't try and upgrade firmware without a firmware file in the CLANs TFTP memory! I think you have toasted those 2 phones, nothing can be done for them, other than send them back to your BP/supplier and claim they are "defective" :)

Mitch

Yes, we were thinking of doing just that....sending them back. We don't know why the file went away, and, had no reason to believe that it was missing. The other PBX still has a good solid file on it, and, doesn't need a TFTP server. The PBX is the TFTP server, and, it works like a charm. I am at a loss why we can't keep it running on this one.

On Friday I did a "change tftp-server", and, changed the tftp server to another CLAN, and, it appears to be holding the file in ACP memory. I'm guessing that if I try to upgrade another phone it will work this time without frying the phone. Wish me luck.

Well, I now have three paperweights (former telephones). One appears to have been bad out of the box. One was the one that we tried to upgrade last week and went back to V2.01 2420D.

This morning (after checking the tftp-server and the feature access code in the G3R) I dialed *36, received a second dial tone, and, dialed the extension of the phone (which was a V4). The phone started to download, downloaded a few k of file, and then said "download denied". The phone was then "downgraded" to a V2.01, and, is, basically, unusable.

I am really at a loss. We have always had success with this process using the G3R as the TFTP server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Marilynn

Update:
I worked with Avaya, and, I was finally able to upgrade these three phones.
I uploaded a new file to the CLAN TFTP (via the Avaya TFTP server). Several times I plugged the phone in, and, it went immediately into a download, and, then failed. Display TFTP-Server showed that the file was no longer on the board.
I uploaded the file back up to the CLAN, busied the board, and, did a reset on the board. The phone was plugged in, and, just as I was going to release the CLAN back into service, I glanced at the phone and it was seriously into the upload. I did nothing while I watched the phone finish it's upload and come up as a V5.0 phone. I plugged in a second phone, and, it, too immediately went into upload (without the need of the feature access code). It, too, appeared to be taking a good upload. Just for grins, I released the CLAN board, and, the upload stopped. I busied the CLAN again, did a reset, and, the phone started to upload. I now have three good phones.

Please note that this is not the way this has worked for us numerous times before. Tier III said that perhaps the developer tossed an "auto upload" feature into the phone to address customer complaints of having trouble with installations with larger numbers of phones. He is going to escalate and try and get us an answer as to why it is working that way, and, he is also going to talk with the developer.
