I have a computer here that was upgraded from Windows XP pro to Windows 7 pro. We have a program that was written in VB5 and access 97 years ago. I have added the ocx files it was asking for and installed msvbvm50.dll and dao350.dll. The program opens and allows you to see the interface but when you click on the button that pulls from the database. I am getting "Error 525:Data access error".

Anyone have any ideas?

Chris

Might be some help here:
I've tried installing MDAC on Win7 with no success (apparently the components are already included). I realize that Access loves DAO internally, but judging from your dll's you may want to try rewring the connection string in ADO.

Beir bua agus beannacht!

Thanks for the reply.

Do you think that if I use the ADO vs DAO can I still use VB5?

Chris

The best way to see is to.... try.
I use VB6 in Win7 with no problem.
After all, VB5 and VB6 is pretty much the same stuff.

Have fun.

from what some people were saying was the data controls should be set to access2000 and not just access. However, in VB5 only access is listed. When I type access2000 I get another error.

So I am trying to convert to a ado connection. From my understanding the dbgrid only allows an ADO connection! Is this correct? I tried to add a msflexgrid control but it says license information for this component not found.

Anyone have any ideas?

Chris

Meant to say that the DBgrid only allows DAO connections and not ADO!!

I have made a few vb6 programs that accesses access97 and displays on datagrids through code and an ADODC control.
Data can be also easily accessed by a dynaset in code.
I have Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.5 library and DAO 3.6 Object Library (not 350).

They run perfectly in Win7 as long as you set the application exe to run in compatibility mode
